Greetings and salutations,

I recently drove through Leyden and it has changed so much lately. Driving through Leyden was a favorite route of mine. With the small canyon and farm house on the west side that slowly changed into the residential area of Leyden on the eastside. The change is much more abrupt these days with the new housing development on the south side of the canyon. The increase in traffic has also changed the feel of the area.

The tree stand in the painting above is located close to the junction of W. 82nd Avenue and Quaker Street in Leyden. The trees have grown so large and so many more in number now that it’s hard for me to recognize that the place is the same as in the painting. The color of the grasses came from a paint mixture error that I thought suited the time of year better than the mixture I was intending. It was a cold grey fall day that had a sky threatening snow all day. Every now and again the sun would peak through the grey overcast skies. Such a typical day on the the front range.

Take care and have a beautiful day,
