I think Highway 93 is one of the most interesting drives on the west side of the metro area.
The view in this painting is close to where Leyden Road meets Highway 93. The direction of the view is to the north and only slightly east. There’s a bit of Highway 93 moving in and out of the composition on the left central edge and adds scale to the landscape.
The ridge, that is mostly in shadow, has sunlight along the top edge. I really liked the play of light on the grasses along the hogback and how the strong yellow of the grasses nudges the bushes in the foreground into a red-purple color.
