Still life painting has been an artistic tradition throughout history. Early still life paintings have been discovered in ancient Egyptian tombs and on the walls in Pompeii.

One of the benefits of working with acrylics is the shorter drying time compared to oils. The ease of cleaning up with soap and water is extremely advantageous. Acrylics have a wonderful versatility. They morph and adapt to any style and intention of the artist with the addition of a variety of mediums.

I love water towers, silos, and storage tanks in all their different shapes and sizes. Some seem like structures for water storage but actually have other uses such as storage for natural gas.

Driving around the rural and scenic areas of Colorado can be a wonderful cure for wanderlust especially when there is no particular destination in mind. Desiring views other than the usual, I headed out and was meandering on county roads when I discovered these silos just east of Dacono.

When going to grad school for my master’s in painting at CSU (Colorado State University), I commuted to Ft. Collins and back to Arvada pretty much five days a week. On a good day it took an hour and 30 minutes door to door, one way. Luckily most days were good, especially in the morning going to campus.
