This is painted from a photo I took from the South Boulder Creek Trail back in the mid- to late 90’s. My husband and I got up early on a Saturday morning with danishes and a thermos of hot tea to hike and have breakfast somewhere along the trail.

Tomorrow is the first day of summer or the summer solstice. I’m a very fair weather gardener and don’t do much in the heat of summer nor if it’s too cold. Over the hot summer months, I like doing a little bit here and there when I’m on a studio break.

In keeping with my theme for Father's Day, I'm focusing on portraits of my dad's family from my Family-isms series. This is a portrait of my dad’s father, Matthew, painted from a formal studio photographic portrait.

This is a portrait of my dad’s family. Included are my dad, my grandmother, and my uncle. My grandfather is the photographer and is also included by means of his shadow on the bottom edge of the canvas.
